Arunachal Pradesh
......The eastern most province of India, which is the first to be touched by the rays of the sun, is one of the most beautiful regions. Its isolation has protected its natural beauty, tribal culture, crafts and tradition and its splendid wildlife. The vast canopy of rainforest with its plethora of flora and fauna, makes it one of the world’s seventeen bio-diversity heritage sites. It offers the tourist numerous opportunities for rafting, hiking and mountaineering. Arunachal Pradesh finds mention in ancient literature such as the Kalika Purana and the epics Mahabharata and Ramayana.
There are 26 major indigenous tribes
in Arunachal Pradesh.
Some of them are Nyishi, Monpa, Sherdukpen, Wanchoo,
Apatani, Tagin, Miri, Adi, Akas, Mijis etc.
Arunachal Pradesh offers many attractions to the tourist. They are :
Itanagar : It is the capital of Arunachal Pradesh and the biggest town. The Jawaharlal Nehru Museum has archaeological finds from the Ita Fort, a historical fort situated at the heart of the capital complex which is said to be built by the Ahoms. Besides this, other places of interest are the Buddhist Monastery, Emporium, Ganga Lake, Craft Centre at Naharlagun etc.
Tipi : Tipi is world famous for Asia's largest orchidarium, the Orchid Research Center where there are about 500 different varieties of native orchids.
Bomdila
: The district HQ of the West Kameng
district,
it
situated at a height of 2,530m. It is a delightful stopover amidst apple
orchards, lust forest and trekking trails. There are a couple of picturesque
gompas here.
Dirang : Dirang is famous for its colorful Buddhist gompas and the Kalchakra celebrations. There is also a Yak breeding center here. A dip in the enervating waters of the local hot spring in verdant surrounding is very enjoyable.
Tawang
: The road to Tawang passes through
the awesome heights of the great Sela Pass, the World's Second highest
Pass (13,714 ft).
Jaswantgarh
located here is a memorial to the brave soldier who single handedly tried
to hold of the approaching Chinese from the Pass during the 1962 Indo-Chinese
war. The Tawang War memorial also salutes the hero’s of the war.
The 350 year old famous Tawang Monastery which is supposed to be the biggest Monastery after Lhasa's Potala Monastery is the main attraction here. The craft center in Tawang sells beautiful masks, hand woven carpets, tangkhas, silver jewellery, turquoise, coral and amber. Tawang, the land of the Monpa tribes is a major center of Mahayana Buddhism. The township stands on the spur of a hill over 12,000 ft. above sea level.
Ziro : Picturesque Ziro is 200 kms from Itanagar. A visit to an Apatani tribal home is a must here. The Apatanis are one of the most advanced and intriguing of Arunachal's tribal people. Both men and women tatoo themselves and the women are distinctive with their great nose plugs. Tarin has a high altitude fish farm and is famous for whispering pine groves and a craft center.
Pasighat

Pasighat
is Arunachal's oldest town and the headquarters of the East Siang. It
is an ideal spot for adventure sports activities. The Daying Ering Wildlife
sanctuary is 13 kms away and is worth visiting.
Malinithan : The archeological site of Malinithan is linked to the legend of Lord Krishna and wife Rukmini. Ruins of a big temple belonging to 14th - 15th century have been excavated here. It is believed that bathing in Akshi-Ganga water falls, 5 km. away from Malinithan washes away once sins.
Namdapha
National Park : It is a unique wildlife
park in India with altitude variation from sea level to snow covered
peaks at the height of 4500m. It is only here that one finds the four
different
varieties
of Cat, the tiger, leopard, clouded leopard and the snow leopard. It
is also the home of the Red Panda and the hollock gibbon. It has 150
different varieties of trees and has a fabulous wealth of medicinal and
ornamental plants.
Parsuram Kund : A religious site for the Hindus, it becomes active during the makar sankranti festival when devotees from all over the country come here for a holy dip in the kund. ..Top >>>
